Full-Time Head of Finance

Migrant Offshore Aid Station Foundation (MOAS) is a charity dedicated to saving lives at sea by providing professional search and rescue to people who are in distress.
MOAS was established in response to a humanitarian disaster in October 2013, in which some 400 men, women and children drowned off the Italian island of Lampedusa. To date, MOAS has saved over 12,000 lives and become an internationally acclaimed NGO.
Due to ongoing expansion, MOAS is looking to recruit a full-time Head of Finance.
The Head of Finance will contribute to the overall success of the foundation by effectively managing all financial activities and guiding financial decision-making. This position is entrusted with the responsibility to maintain financial health while supporting MOAS’ objectives, maximizing effectiveness and mitigating risk.
The successful candidate will possess a balance of strong analytic and quantitative skills along with the co llaborative and communication skills necessary to integrate strong financial practices into all aspects of MOAS’ work.

Take a hand-over from the existing outsourced function and establish the department from the ground up
Serve as a member of the senior staff, engaging with the foundation’s leaders
Monthly management reporting of financial data and donation analysis
Maintenance of the foundation’s general ledger
Understand the various donation types and platforms, t ake over the CRM database for consolidation
Closely work with the MOAS fundraising team
Perform various month-end procedures and reconciliations
Manage the Foundation’s donations and ensure availability of funds as needed
Issue payments, including payroll and vendor invoices
Monitor finance email accounts
Prepare the annual budget and long-term forecasts in collaboration with the management team
Be the point of contact for employment contracts, local authorities, audit firms, vendor contracts and international expansion projects
Review and enhancement of internal control processes and procedures
Generate regular financial reports on donations / e-wallet / payment gateway data
Other duties assigned by the CEO
A minimum of five years of working experience in a similar role
Exceptional attention to detail
Skill in ‘translating’ financial information for non-financial audiences
University Degree in Accountancy / final stages of ACCA
Proficient user of Microsoft Excel and advanced knowledge of other Microsoft Office Applications including Word and PowerPoint
Excellent written and spoken English. Knowledge of Italian would be considered an asset
Ability to thrive working as part of a team with minimal supervision and a positive approach towards challenges and problem solving
